Editor's Note
Issue 3 features short-short fiction by writers from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Nigeria. The eight stories range from the very short and experimental to those with more traditional narrative structures. Despite the issue’s focus on short-short fiction, some of these pieces cover years of their characters’ lives and traverse many physical spaces, while others bring into focus a single moment.
In this issue you’ll find a woman who is taken to “a healer” by her husband who has shunned her for years, a man fired from his job for urinating on a potted plant, a group of backpackers whose lives have been paused in the most unusual of ways, and many other characters navigating unexpected circumstances and fraught realities.
Perhaps most notable in issue 3 is that we’ve published our first piece in Swahili, “Karakana ya Kheri.” As a journal of East Africa, we’re committed to continuing to publish work in Swahili and we hope this will inspire more Swahili writers and poets to send work our way!
Lastly, many thanks to our contributors for trusting us with their wonderful work.
